Mount Kilauea Vomiting Lava

Mount Kilauea Vomiting Lava

Kilauea volcano spewed lava up to the roof of a tourist boat in Hawaii and left 23 people injured. A passenger of the ship suffered a broken bone in the leg when trying to save himself from the vomit of rock and debris.

The injured tourists are now being treated at the hospital. The ship is taking tourists to see Kilauea volcano which erupted in May and has since continued to release gas and rock melts. Some of the ship's passenger travelers told the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources that the ship they were traveling on was outside the safe zone set by the coast guard.

Officials have warned of the dangers of toxic fumes from volcanoes, created through chemical processes as molten rocks hit the ocean and form clouds containing hydrochloric acid and glass particles.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and its eruption has destroyed hundreds of homes and forced thousands of people to flee. Until now, only one victim has been seriously injured, his feet hit by the hot liquid rock projectile while sitting on the balcony.

Last week, scientists from the US Geological Survey Center said the lava flows from the volcano have created a new small island.
