Blind Returns to Ajax
MANCHESTER United have reached an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam to return Dutch international Daley Blind to the club. It was announced the Red Devils, Monday (16/7).
The 28-year-old Ajax graduate and has played more than 100 games for the club, recruited Manchester United in 2014 but failed to become first-choice player manager Jose Mourinho.
British media reported that Blind would move with an initial transfer value of 14.1 million pounds sterling, which could rise to 18.5 million pounds sterling based on performance. The amount is a transfer record for Ajax.
Blind who is an all-round player, who can play in multiple positions in the back and midfield, recruited United for 14 million pounds sterling after defending his country at the 2014 World Cup.
However, he has difficulty securing a position in the core team in left-back position, where he has to compete with British Ashley Young, and there is also a tight competition for positions in the heart of defense.
Blind, who has 54 caps for the Netherlands, won the FA Cup in 2016 as well as the Europa League and League Cup last year. However, he did not enter the squad United who defeated Chelsea in this year's FA Cup final.
The Dutchman entered his final season on his five-year contract at United, having played 90 league games in four years at Old Trafford, although he played only seven times last season.
Blind, whose total has played 141 games for United, with a collection of six goals, is not part of United's squad that flew to Los Angeles for a pre-season tour in the US
